BRANCH MEETINGS.

The branch meets monthly in Newry between September and June with an invited guest speaker every other month. Usually the theme is water related if not directly to do with canals. At recent meetings we've had a presentation by branch members on their sailing voyages, a representative from the Boyne branch describing their restoration work and the bio-diversity officer from the Ulster Wildlife Trust telling us about at risk species in our area.

For information on upcoming topics please go to the latest news page.

SPECIAL EVENTS

As the Newry canal has no boating access we try to arrange group events for branch members to get together socially and also to meet members from other branches. Recent events include a visit to Ram's Island in Lough Neagh, a preview of refurbishment work at Moneypenny's lock and participation in the Boyne small boat rally.

For details of future events see the latest news page.

WORK PARTIES

Every 3 weeks from 9.00am - 2.00pm the branch holds work parties to clean up the neglected locks on the canal. From September to March we can cut trees but during the nesting season we concentrate on weed culling and also participate in related conservation projects in partnership with the Ulster Wildlife Trust. Members from other branches are very welcome to join our Saturday workparties. For your trouble you will be given a share in the felled timber and a picnic lunch; not to mention wit and wisdom from the rest of the gang. Come along for a breath of fresh air and a bit o' crack.

See the calendar for dates, and for location details contact the branch newry@iwai.ie
